"Stopping the Clock" on Review for Promotion

Office of the Provost, 2008

A tenure-track or clinical scholar assistant professor may, under certain circumstances, request a delay of review for promotion of up to one year. Such circumstances may include, among others, the birth or adoption of a child, responsibility for managing the illness or disability of a family member, or illness of the faculty member. Written requests to "stop the clock" should be addressed to the appropriate Dean, Director, or (in the case of the Divisions) Department Chair as soon as the circumstances justifying the request are known. A request must be approved by the appropriate Dean and is then subject to review by the Provost.
